Maternity Guide

Congratulations, mama! I’m thrilled for you and honored to capture this special moment in your life. In this guide, you’ll find some of the best tips to help make your maternity session a success.

On the day of your shoot, I recommend moisturizing your belly beforehand to prevent any dry-looking skin, especially if you're planning to take a few bare belly shots. If you're wearing a maternity dress that might reveal certain areas, nude panties and a bra are ideal. For dresses with black lace, black undergarments work best. Try to avoid tight-fitting panties and bras, as a looser fit will help prevent visible lines under tighter dresses. If you're considering photos in just your undergarments, matching sets in nude, black, white, or any color you love are perfect. Soft colors and lace photograph beautifully. Another great option is to wrap yourself in a blanket, fabric, jacket, or cozy cardigan, allowing your belly to pop out.

Many images will highlight your hands cradling your bump. This is the perfect opportunity to pamper yourself before the shoot – even a simple clear coat of nail polish can make a big difference. I recommend avoiding bright neon colors or anything too attention-grabbing so that everything flows seamlessly together in the photos.

Tips

Since we are shooting in my home studio, I do ask that once you arrive, please take off any shoes at the front door. I would recommend wearing something easy to take on and off, like flip flops.

If you are wearing any shoes for your session, please bring those in a tote and because the studio is mostly white, please make sure the bottom of your shoes are clean of any dirt.

If your little ones will be joining for photos, please avoid giving them any snacks or foods that could stain their teeth, tongues, or fingers before the session. This includes things like candy, Cheetos, or juices.

It is a great idea to drink plenty of water the day before your session and make sure you get a good night's sleep. Feeling refreshed will help you look and feel your best during the session.

You will also want to keep your skin moisturized. I recommend applying cream to your skin prior to your session. If you want to bring body oil with you, that works too.

It is also very important to moisturize any one else that will be in your photos as well. Especially elbows, ankles, knees and any other parts of skin that will be showing in the images.

If Monro Photography is providing outfits, feel free to arrive to the studio in a robe or something loose fitting that is easy to take off.

If you are bringing nipple covers, please do not bring the gel kind. Those tend to slip off and move around too much during poses. I recommend the disposable pastie covers.

Posing and Expression Tips

Embrace. Your. Belly.

Don't worry or stress yourself about poses. I will guide you into flattering and comfortable positions.

The key is to relax and enjoy the experience, letting your natural beauty shine through.

Focus on the connection between you and your baby bump, your partner and children.

If you have older children participating in the shoot, encourage them to interact with your belly whether by kissing, hugging, or gently placing a hand on your bump. This adds a beautiful, heartfelt element to the photos. My goal is to capture authentic expressions and emotions.

There are shots I may ask you to close your eyes, just take a deep breath and fully connect with your baby.

These moments will reflect the deep bond between you and your little one.

Again, try not to stress about being photographed. Your emotions or nervousness can potentially show in your final images. Trust your photographer and enjoy these moments!

I am looking forward to our shoot together. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
