For nine months, your body did the incredible work of growing a tiny human and now, in what feels like the blink of an eye, your greatest blessing is finally in your arms. Hold on tight mama, these early days are fleeting, but oh so beautiful. I’m honored to capture the very beginning of this new chapter in your family’s story.
Let’s make these memories last forever.

Inside this guide, you’ll find thoughtful tips I’ve gathered from years of photographing newborns in the comfort of home. Each recommendation is designed to help you feel prepared, relaxed and confident, so we can focus on capturing the tender, authentic moments that truly matter.
Your session will typically take between 1 to 1.5 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, soothing, and natural breaks to keep baby comfortable throughout.
Preparing your home and baby
I love working with natural light whenever possible, it brings a soft, timeless quality to your photos. Before I arrive, please open the blinds and curtains in the rooms we may use. This helps me find the best light, which will guide where the majority of the session takes place. I’ll also bring some lighting with me, just in case we need a little extra.
Great spots to consider include your bedroom, living room couch, or the nursery. If we’re using your bedroom, take a moment to clear off nightstands, dressers and any surfaces that might be visible in photos. Also be mindful of mirrors, they can reflect clutter from other parts of the room like diaper boxes, laundry piles, or personal items. A quick tidy-up will help keep the focus on your family.
Set your home to a warmer, but comfortable temperature to help baby stay cozy, especially during moments when we unwrap them for solo shots.
If you have younger children, I recommend taking a few minutes to introduce them to the idea of me coming over. Let them know I’ll be taking photos and that it’ll be a relaxed, fun experience. This helps them feel more comfortable and included when the camera comes out.

A Few More Tips & What to Expect
⏰
TIMING IS FLEXIBLE
Newborns are on their own little schedule and that’s totally okay! Your session will last about 1 to 1.5 hours, but we’ll follow baby’s lead. We’ll take breaks for feeding, soothing and diaper changes as needed.
🍼
Feed Baby Before the SessioN
Try to plan a feeding shortly before I arrive. A full belly helps baby feel calm and sleepy, which is perfect for snuggly, relaxed photos. If baby needs to feed again during the session, no worries at all we’ll pause as needed.
👕
What to Wear
Keep outfits simple, neutral and comfortable. Soft, solid tones like whites, creams, greys, or earthy pastels photograph beautifully. Avoid busy patterns or logos. Bare baby or a simple onesie is perfect. I’m happy to guide you through wardrobe planning. I will also bring some wraps as well to use for certain poses.
🧺
Keep Essentials Nearby
Have items like burp cloths, pacifiers, blankets and extra diapers handy. These little things can help ease transitions and keep the flow relaxed.
🧘🏽
Embrace the Chaos
Lifestyle sessions are meant to feel natural, not perfect. If siblings are energetic or baby is fussy, it’s all part of your story and that’s okay. Some of the most beautiful images come from unplanned, in-between moments.

Your Home Doesn’t Have to Be Magazine-Perfect
Don’t stress over deep cleaning your whole house. We’ll only shoot in a few well-lit areas, and I’ll help guide where we’ll shoot based on light and background. A quick tidy of those spaces is all that’s needed.
💖
This is Your Story
Don’t be afraid to cuddle up, laugh, rock your baby, or move around. The magic of lifestyle photography is capturing your genuine connection. The goal isn’t posed perfection, it’s preserving how this moment felt.
See your family soon.
