For nine months your body worked hard to grow a tiny human. Those nine months came and now they are gone and just like that, you hold in your arms, the sweetest blessing your heart desired. Hold on tight mama, these moments are going to be amazing and I'm so excited we get to capture the very first days of this new chapter in your families life.

In this guide, you'll find some helpful tips that I have created, after many years of experience in shooting newborns. Each of these are highly important in creating a calm and comfortable environment, for your sweet baby. These lifestyle sessions usually take around 1.5hrs. The timing will vary depending on how much baby needs to feed.

Preparing your home and baby

I like to try and use as much natural light possible for your photos. Prior to my arrival, it's a great idea to open all the blinds in the areas we may shoot at. This enables me to find the best source of natural light, where majority of the photos will take place. I'll bring along some additional light as well, just in case additional light is needed. Places you want to consider shooting around are your bedroom, couch or babies nursery. If we are shooting in your bedroom, please remove unwanted items off your nightstands, dressers, end tables, etc. that may appear in images. Keep in mind with any mirrors you may have that will reflect another part of the room that might have things stacked up like diaper boxes, laundry or other things. Please remove them so they are not a distraction in the photos.

Having your home set to a warmer temperature will allow baby to feel comfortable for moments where we unwrap to get solos.

If you have other smaller children, it's really best to sit down with them and let them know who I am and what I will be doing when I come over. It can help them prepare and feel more at ease.

Lifestyle newborn sessions focus on capturing authentic, candid moments of family life with a new baby. Unlike traditional studio photography, which often features posed shots with props and backdrops, lifestyle sessions emphasize the natural interactions and emotions within your own environment.

The focus is on real-life interactions, such as mom holding, feeding or simply loving on your new baby. The aim is to capture genuine emotions and connection within your family.

Don't worry, there will still be gentle direction given to ensure flattering angles and compositions, the emphasis is on capturing moments as they naturally unfold.

Looking forward to meeting baby and documenting your sweet family.
